New Postbiotic "MB1" Gains Attention for Promoting Digestive Enzyme Secretion

The three essential nutrients in the human body — carbohydrates, proteins, and fats — must be broken down before they can be used as energy. When digestive enzyme secretion decreases, it can lead not only to intestinal disorders but also to a wide range of other diseases.

Postbiotic MB1 is produced by heat-treating the patented strain MB0601, which has gluten-degrading properties. Exclusive licensing rights for this strain were granted to Microbiome Inc. by a government-funded research institute.

MB1 supports digestion by stimulating the secretion of gastrin, a hormone that regulates gastric acid and pancreatic enzyme release. This leads to increased gastric mucosal growth, improved blood flow to the stomach, and enhanced gastrointestinal motility. It also boosts the secretion of pancreatic amylase, the enzyme responsible for breaking down carbohydrates.

In an eight-week mouse study where feed was supplemented with gluten-degraded wheat flour containing the MB0601 strain, blood gastrin levels increased by up to 60% and pancreatic amylase secretion increased by up to 80%, as shown in the chart below.

Microbiome Inc. noted, "When we consume probiotics, it is not the bacteria themselves that play the most beneficial role. Instead, the metabolites they produce in the gut help suppress intestinal inflammation, strengthen immunity, and improve conditions such as diabetes. These metabolites also lower pH levels, creating an environment where harmful bacteria cannot survive, which supports improvements in dysbiosis and leaky gut syndrome."

The company added, "Most modern people live in a state of dysbiosis. Because the gut lacks sufficient beneficial bacteria to produce enough metabolites on its own, supplementation with probiotics is essential to maintain gut health."

According to Microbiome Inc., MB1 is produced by heat-treating the MB0601 strain, which enhances its effectiveness for gut health. It also contains beneficial metabolites such as organic acids and short-chain fatty acids, which promote the growth of beneficial bacteria, inhibit harmful bacteria, and help maintain the optimal microbiome balance of 85:15 — supporting a healthier intestinal environment.

Microbiome Inc. leverages its proprietary technology to develop, manufacture, and supply MB1, while supporting its application across diverse products.
